Dry Pipe Sprinkler Systems
Dry Pipe sprinkler systems are used when the heat cannot be maintained above 4°C, this is typical for storage parkades, exterior loading docks, coolers, freezers and exterior canopies. A typical dry pipe system uses air pressure on top of the valve clapper in the dry pipe valve to hold back the municipal water pressure, once a sprinkler head activates air pressure is dropped and the valve opens, water is delivered into the piping system and then onto the fire, and an alarm is activated. Sprinkler heads are activated by the heat in a fire and only the sprinkler heads that have enough heat to activate them go off.
